Spitfire Mk IV RAAF 79 SQ Smithhell Airplane Miniature Model Metal Die-Cast Scale 1.72 Part# A02WTW72002-008

  • $ 6995

The Supermarine Spitfire was one of the best fighter aircraft of its time. Unlike its counterpart, the Hawker Hurricane, it appeared to have immense room for future improvement. This would lead to 24 marks of Spitfire being produced throughout the Second World War in continuing efforts to keep up with the Luftwaffe and Royal Air Force requirements.

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX was introduced as a temporary measure while the Mk VII and Mk VIII were under development. It started life as a strengthened Mk V airframe with the latest, 60 series, Merlin engines driving a 4-bladed air-screw. It proved so successful that in all a total of around 7,180 Mk IXs were produced.

This model represents the Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX of RAAF 79 Squadron flown by Tl. Norm Smithhell.

Please note that this is an adult collectors model and is not recommended for children under 14.
