America West first introduced special scheme liveries to its fleet in 1994. The first special livery was unveiled on May 16, with ship N907AW commemorating the Phoenix Suns basketball team.
The airline remained the basketball team's official airline until June 2003 and has since repainted the plane in its standard fleet colors. America West has been operating 757s in its fleet since 1987 and as of 2004 operates 13 in the fleet. In 1992, America West paid $26 million for the 30-year naming rights of the Phoenix Suns home court, America West Arena.
