Vision Screen 9000

The Vision Screen 9000 package consists of a CD, red/green glasses, and a penlight. The user loads the program into any personal computer running Windows 98SE or later, and follows the program’s instructions. An assistant is needed to help administer some of the tests, but no special skills are required. It takes about 15 minutes to complete all the testing procedures.
  
The results of a person's vision screening are displayed by the program on a printable report form. Any number of report forms can be stored in the program's database, a handy feature for those who wish to track their vision over time, or for schools and other organizations that wish to test many people and keep the results on file.
  
Vision Screen 9000 is NOT a substitute for regular visits to an optometrist or ophthalmologist. It is intended to be a supplement to professional eye care, a way for lay people to quickly and comprehensively screen their vision for possible problems.

Vision Screen 9000 screens for vision problems in the following areas:
  
Far Acuity:
This tests ability to recognize small objects at a distance. If this test is hard, you may need new glasses. You may have trouble seeing to drive. It may be hard to see the TV or objects from the back of a large room. Participating in some sports will be difficult. Acuity changes slowly, so many people do not know their acuity has changed until they take a test.
     
Near Acuity:
This tests the ability to see small objects that are close to you. If this test is hard, you may need new glasses. You may be straining to read or do tasks like threading a needle. Students with near acuity problems often avoid reading and have poor writing skills. At all ages, weak eye sight at near distances will affect attention, comprehension, and retention.
  
Depth Perception:
This tests stereoscopic depth perception. Both eyes must send matching signals to your brain to do this test. If you can see with only one eye, you will not be able to do this test. Depth perception is important for driving, walking on steps and escalators, and many sports. If this test is hard, you do not use your two eyes together correctly. Depth perception problems can be symptoms of learning disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) in children.

Color Vision:
This tests ability to tell the difference between colors. Most color vision defects will not affect your sight or eye health. Changes in color vision can be an early sign of important changes in your eyes, and should always be reported to your eye doctor immediately. Color vision problems can cause confusion for young children. Always inform a child's teacher if the child has a color vision problem.
  
Macular Health:
The Amsler Grid Test is a simple test that can detect changes in the part of the retina with the sharpest sight, the macula. An eye doctor must check any problems found as soon as possible. Changes in the macular area may indicate eye disease and must be treated as soon as possible to minimize loss of sight.
  
Eye Movement:
Control of the muscles that move the eye is a fine motor skill. Good eye movements are important for many visual and perceptual skills. Good control of eye movements is very important for children learning to read.
