Why Tasmeem?
Arabic typography has been a great challenge for the printing and
publishing industry. Because it is composed of complex and shifting
letters, typesetting technology based on letter analysis could not
render the richness of the script. It is for this reason that
Winsoft has developed Tasmeem by analyzing individual pen strokes and
creating a clear and limited set of rules. Tasmeem is a true
breakthrough in Arabic typography as it allows InDesign users to
fully express the enormous variability of Arabic letters.
Tasmeem returns to the sources of the Arabic script traditions,
providing today’s generation of high-tech designers with greater
freedom and offering them a real Arabic-friendly design environment.
The ingenious interface and set of Arabic-related features are ideal
to create richer, more complex Arabic typography. Tasmeem lets you
work better and faster than ever!
Tasmeem operates inside the
Middle Eastern Edition of Adobe InDesign CS4.
It adds calligraphic variety and
typographic accuracy without compromising any InDesign functionality,
including its unicode compliance. For example, text remains searchable
and interchangeable.
Control word spacing
between a word and word segment
With Arabic spacing words become a
parameter; even within words the kerning and tracking of complete
connected letter groups can be managed.

Dozens of alternative forms
generated for each word
Word shaping provides
point-and-click control over all calligraphic and typographic
features, per letter and per word. Tasmeem’s word shaper provides a
truly innovative artistic and typographic perspective to enhance the
legibility and impact of written communication in Arabic.
Tasmeem provides a virtual palette
that enables the typesetter to handle the calligraphic dimension of
Arabic without interfering with the searchable plain Unicode text.

Personalized font
configuration
Tasmeem introduces a totally new
approach to design: personalized font configuration. Text shaping
covers the same calligraphic parameters as word shaping, but in a more
generic manner. Text shaping is designed to handle letter variation
for large amounts of text.
In Tasmeem, in addition to
the given text shaping presets, you can also edit your own style and
apply it wherever you want.
The Position Tuner feature is
used to move diacritrics, dot, mimicry or segments of word on the
text, using the mouse.
This feature can also be used to color a segment of word.
After selecting the segment, select the Position Tuner tool in
InDesign toolbar, then drag and drop the segment to the desired
position.
The Position Tuner palette gives the possibility to change the
position of various items at a time (dots, marks, high marks and low
marks).
Simple selection and transformation of word components
Selection helper is a simple and
effective tool for editing complex text. By presenting each letter
separately, selection and transformation is made extremely easy.

A professional series of
ring options and tools for optimum flexibility
The Rings tool is an impressive
feature that enables designers to reproduce the ornamental rings
around traditional verse numbers. It turns Unicode’s “end of ayah”
mark into a versatile ornament.

Automatically creates
catchwords to anticipate the first word of the following page
A catchword in a book is the word
at the bottom right hand side of the last line of a page, which
repeats the first word of the following page.
It is used to avoid the
interruption of the Quran text reading, by anticipating what will be
read on the next page, while the page is turning.
Tasmeem offers you special
characters for Arabic language and Qur'anic Text.
Tasmeem Characters:
- Qur'anic Delimeters: specific
ornaments, end of ayah, and ornate parenthesis
- Cantillation Marks to help the Koran recitation
- Characters and Vowels: for example madda or subscript alif
- Number Marker: the specific year marker
- Tanween Marks for the vowels
- Honorifics expressions
