Recognition Technology |
|
|
This
technology is integrated into the Pronunciation module of the software.
Using the built in microphone on your computer, you will be able to repeat
words after you hear them spoken by a native speaker through your computer
speakers. The software will analyze your pronunciation and compare a
waveform representation of the native speaker’s pronunciation with a
waveform of your pronunciation. An accuracy scale on the screen with display
your voice match to the native speaker on a scale of “Bad, “Acceptable”, and
“Good”. |
 |
Talking
Dictionary |
|
|
This
feature allows you to look up the meaning of words using the target language
you are learning and your native language. A definition of the word or
phrase will display on the screen and you may roll over the word or phrase
with your mouse to hear the pronunciation in the target language by a native
speaker. The dictionary allows you to create a personal custom dictionary of
Essential Words, Common Words and Less Common Words. The software will
automatically export the dictionary to a text document that can be saved on
your computer and printed. The Talking Dictionary feature is accessible
directly, and also within the Grammar, Vocabulary and Story Modules. |

through the levels automatically based on your performance. AutoLearn will
automatically decide if and when you need to review. This feature gives you
your own personal language tutor! |

Lesson Structure:
|
 |
Grammar
Exercises –
Reading, Writing,
Comprehension |
|
| |
The
goal of these exercises is to build your knowledge of how the words fit
together to make sense. Some of the exercises are translations; others are
designed to teach you to think in the target language by asking you to
change a phrase in a specific way. This feature requires you type responses
within the exercises, providing a practical and effective form of writing
instruction. |
 |
Vocabulary Exercises – Essential
Words, Common Words, Less Common Words |
|
| |
In
these lessons, you will be shown a word or expression. If you know the
translation, you will type it in using the keyboard. The vocabulary
exercises are presented in three groups; Essential Words, of which you learn
hundreds of words needed for basic day-to-day conversation. Common Words,
which adds an additional 1000 words to enable you to converse with a greater
degree of flexibility. Less Common words presents over 1000 words that will
help you read through literature. |
 |
Stories – Spoken by native speakers,
Translated, Vocabulary Definitions |
|
| |
The
Stories section will help you learn how to use vocabulary and grammar in
context. You will be shown a story with words missing throughout. The words
that are missing are shown in a list. Its your job to drag the words to the
proper place in the story. If there are any words you don’t understand,
simply double click on the word and the dictionary will appear, allowing you
to access the meaning of the word. The module also allows you to hear the
story as spoken by a native speaker and see the story translated in your
native language. |
 |
Progress – Short Term, Long Term,
Passive & Active Retention |
|
| |
| The software provides
you with both an immediate and long-term progress tracking system. As you
work within lessons, you will see a display of the percentage of the lesson
you are completing without errors. There is also a graphical display
indicating the rise and fall of your performance as the lesson progresses.
When your score reaches a specific threshold (that you set using the
AutoLearn feature) you will automatically move up to the next level.
Long-term progress is accessed by clicking on the Monitor Progress button on
the main screen. You will see a graphical representation indicating your
scores for all lessons at each level. The system will also provide you with
an approximate indication of your successful retention of vocabulary. It
will differentiate between your retained Passive Vocabulary (words you
understand but cannot fluently converse with) and retained Active Vocabulary
(words you can understand and also use in conversation). |

Language Learning
Mode Variations:
|
The key to learning a
language is the frequency of your exposure and use of vocabulary and
grammar. The average person must be exposed to a word or phrase 100s of
times before integrating it into fluent conversation. The two major
thresholds of gaining language fluency is the learner’s ability to:
- Learn a base
vocabulary of approximately 2000 words for day-to-day use
- Learn the rules of
grammar
The MLS Easy Immersion system is designed to master these
challenges by providing four independent learning modules:
- Vocabulary Lessons
- Grammar Exercises
- Interactive Stories
- Pronunciation
Practice
The way we most successfully learn a new language varies
from individual to individual. The MLS Easy Immersion systems provides three
specific modes to progress through the lessons:
-
Browse Mode:
Allows the user to survey the lessons without being required to provide
answers and complete exercises. The dictionary is functional in this mode
and allows the user to access the meanings of words.
-
AutoWord Mode:
During exercises in the lessons, the user is required to type responses
using the keyboard. In the AutoWord Mode, simply type the first letter of
what you believe is the correct word or phrase and the system will auto
complete the entire word. In the case of a phrase or sentence, you must
type the first letter of each subsequent word.
- Normal
Mode: There is no auto fill feature. The user must type in the
correct spelling of the word or words within a phrase or sentence.
Suggested Settings
For new users who are not familiar with the course
contents, the most suitable setting is Browse. For all users in general, the
Normal Mode is most suitable for Vocabulary lessons and the AutoWord Mode is
most suitable for Grammar exercises. |
