In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Captain Meriwether Lewis & William Clark to traverse, explore, and document the vast uncharted lands west of the Mississippi River. The assigned Expedition, called "Corps of Discovery", laid the foundation for the westward expansion of the United States.

200 years later, a film crew along with Clay Jenkinson, has traveled the modern-day route of the Lewis & Clark Trail and compiled one of the most extensive documentaries to reflect the accomplishments and achievements of the Expedition.

This DVD takes viewers along the modern-day trail and gives a first-hand account on a wide variety of topics from historical accuracy of the locations, events and names, to the health, wealth and idealism of the original people of the Expedition paralleled to our present social, economical and explorative issues. This DVD has been selected by the National Council for the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial as an official documentary product to celebrate the bicentennial of the L&C Expedition.

The DVD encompasses 45 - 90 second short stories along with an informative 52 minute documentary, 15 minute "making of" film, and 40 minutes of additional interviews. Jefferson’s Enlightenment: Season One, explores the theories, ideas and preparations covered the year before the Corps began their historic journey up the Missouri River: Jefferson’s orders, Lewis’ preparations, Clark’s responsibilities, and much more.
