You will learn elementary reading principles and how to spell and pronounce words through two fun, interactive games. The first quizzes you on identifying letters within words. Arabic letters change shape depending on whether they appear at the beginning of a word, in the middle of a word or at the end of a word. The featured letter is highlighted red. You are to click on the corresponding letter from the alphabet buttons. You have three chances. After three tries, the program shows you the correct answer. Once you begin identifying letters, you will be able to sound out words with ease! (Remember: Arabic is read and written from right to left. As awkward as this may seem, you will become quickly accustomed to this!) The spelling game builds your vocabulary and tests your pronunciation of words through an interactive tutor. Notice that you are provided with the meanings of each word and a "Read" button that may be pressed at any time to hear the pronunciation of the word. You are required to click on the appropriate letter - starting from the right and going left -spelling the word. You have three tries for each letter. After three tries, the computer will show you the correct answer. When a letter is correctly chosen, it is added to the space above (just to the left of the featured word). This helps you see your place in spelling the word. There 67 are words for you to spell! You will build a strong working vocabulary and you will be able to pronounce and read each word. WRITING ARABIC1. Single Letters 2. Words 3. Dictation This section features artistic animations that show you how to write Arabic letters and words. The writing of each single letter of the Arabic alphabet is demonstrated as well as the writing of words. You can practice along with the program animation or on your own. Dictation tests your writing ability of the words that you have practiced Listening Comprehension Six drills demonstrate the additional letters and symbols that were introduced in the previous lesson. Read along with the native speaker as you learn the spelling and meaning of each word. A transliteration is provided if needed.
